The star of Elf, and Step Brothers has recently become a co-owner of David Beckham’s new Los Angeles Football Club.
The actor may seem like a comical idiot but he has had enough history being an owner of big businesses; he played President Business in “The Lego Movie”, became a partner of a big time stock trading company in the film “Get Hard”, and he also founded the comedy video website “Funny Or Die”. Will Ferrell’s only other football (or should I say Soccer?) related role was in the 2005 film “Kicking and Screaming” where he played a coach of a junior football team.
Will Ferrell first announced that he would become an owner of the club when co-owner and ex-professional football player Mia Hamm pulled Ferrell up on stage during a launch for the new team and asked “You want it?” to which Ferrell replied: “This is not a joke. I’m actually a member of this fine ownership group.” He also stated that his 3 children play the game and his wife enjoyed it whilst at Pomona College, he then said “to say soccer is a big part of our lives is an understatement”.
The new club, dubbed Los Angeles FC, was founded by ex-footballing sensation, David Beckham and is set to start playing in the MLS (Major League Soccer) by 2018 in a specially-designed 22,000 seat stadium in the south of LA. There is a total of 22 other investors in the club besides Mr. Ferrell; including former USA women’s international football team striker Mia Hamm and basketballing legend for the Lakers, Magic Johnson.
